Flipboard-now for iPad & iPhone...

I have been meaning to write a post about Flipboard for months now. It is HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE APP ON THE IPAD. It is the first app I tell people new to iPad to get and it is almost always the first app I launch on the iPad every time I take mine our of my bag.

So what is flipboard? I have their vidoe at the end of this post, however, I don't think it does the software justice. They call their software "your social magazine" and it is that for sure. However for me, it has become the ONE place I go "on the web" when I used to have to go to about 15 or 20 different sites to get MY NEWS and look at my personal points of interests. In its simpliest form, it is a "reader" for social sites like facebook and twitter. You simply enter your twitter and facebook credentials, and now you have a view of your feeds you can FLIP through like a magazine.

Of course, if that is all it did, I would not be so enamoured with the application. The real power of Filpboard is to agregate the information you want in a beautiful format while retaining the "social" aspects of twitter and facebook. Now that everyone from CNN to Starbucks has a twitter or facebook account, you can "follow" your favorite brand or news outlet and see everything in one place on Flipboard. And of course, you can still see what your cousin Vinny is doing on facebook, and in a format that is much more readable than what facebook gives you. I could go on and on about all the different ways you can use flipboard, but the best way to find out is to simply download the free app and try it out.

I will give you a few hints on where to go in Flipboard after you install it and configure your personal facebook and/or twitter accounts. First, if you are a uber geek like me and have and iPhone and an iPad, create a flipboard account so that you won't have to configure your iPhone and iPad versions separately. Second, check out the sidebar in Flipboard with the "red bookmark labeled More..." Flipboard has categoriezed a number of popular twitter feeds to make it easy to find a variety of content focused on YOUR interest. Everything from Glamour Magazine, to the Economists, to a BBC news feed. And if that were not enough, they have also made some suggested list of their own. List like FlipGreen and FlipDesign where you can follow a variety of "feeds" related to a topic. As I said, I can go on and on... but your best bet is to just try it... I bet you will love it.
