Music and iPods help Alzheimer's patients...

I wanted to share an interesting article here that my wife shared with me. The folks at Music & Memory are working with nursing homes to deliver customized playlist on iPods to patients with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. As you will see from the video below and the referenced article, they are achieving some amazing results.

To learn more, you can read the article The Healing Power of Music currently featured in AARP magazine. Or simply visit the Music and Memory website for much more detailed information.

They have a donations page online  where you can help for as little as $30 (for songs) or $49 (for an iPod Shuffle), or $98 (for 2 iPods).

Here is a video from their site showing the success they have had with a man named Henry who suffered from dementia for a decade and barely spoke to anyone until the Music & Memory iPod program was setup at his nursing home.

Despite the enormous sums of money spent on mood- and behavior-altering medications that are often not particularly effective, nothing compares to these iPods when it comes to improving quality of life.”
