iPhoto '09 - Faces & Places

Hey folks... hero-ilife-20090106.png

Just a quick note to tell you a few of my first impressions of the new iLife 09.

I have only just begun to play with some of the new features of iPhoto, but my feeling already is that the costs ($79 single user, $99 family pack) is worth it just for the features in iPhoto. I have already used some of the Geo Tagging features (Places) and have been playing with the Sharing features (integration with Facebook and Flickr) and it all works as advertised. The most intriguing new feature is Faces. Facial recognition that can be used by mere mortals and without you having to join the NSA. I saw the demo's at the keynote at Macworld and it looks fantastic.

I will let you know what my real world experience is soon, but for now, Apple has posted a guided tour video that will give you an overview of the new features in iPhoto.

I will tell you this, I am finding the new features are pushing me to get off my duff and do some fun things with all my digital pictures. iPhoto may no longer be the place all my iPhone and camera photos go to languish, forgotten in the digital backwater of my computer because I just needed an easy way to free up the storage on these devices. I've already started using events to geo tag places we have take photos, I've made and printed an iPhoto book, shared some images with my Facebook account, and this weekend I expect to have some serious face recognition testing going on!

I will keep you posted on my progress and experience with my new toy.
