iPhone 3.0 software coming this summer...

iphone-os-preview-hero20090317.png Hey folks...

Apple announced the new iPhone 3.0 software this week. It was released to developers on Tuesday but won't be available to end users until this summer. You can watch the 1 hr + long video of the event at Apple's web site or simply read an in-depth review at Gizmodo.

Here is a brief list of features that I am most excited about...

"Cut and Paste" ... FINALLY

Notes Sync... also Finally... really we have had to email them to ourselves all this time

Spotlight search... you can now search all information on your phone from one place via spotlight

Stereo Bluetooth (not on 1G iPHone)

Email and SMS in landscape mode (again Finally!)

They also said the developers will have access to write to hardware. My hope is that this will create a whole new market for accessories other than just "docks". The first one should be a keyboard. I have had many clients ask for this and hope this new API lets developers make these types of devices.

We will keep you posted as we learn more. But for now it looks like a great upgrade this summer with many long awaited features. The software will be free for iPhone users and $9.95 for iPod touch users.
