Most designers, specifically Urban Designers and Landscape Architects, this day and age are familiar with a program called Farm to Table. The program/movement reaches far beyond that of design and encompasses the circles of organic farming, sustainable agriculture, and community garden initiatives. As I came across this design by Emily Wettstein, a graduate student at Harvard, I thought to myself "she took farm to table a little too literally". My initial thoughts were...it won't work...it will be messy...what kind of bugs will it attract? All negative and close-minded. For what is design but our ability to push the boundaries and promote change. That is exactly what Emily has done here...and on second thought (and third, and fourth, and fifth) it is beautiful, imaginative, responsible...and downright brilliant.
